Permanent Household Survey (Encuesta Permanente de Hogares, EPH)
Rotating panel following urban households throughout Argentina for a maximum of a year and a half. The survey is conducted in May and October each year in provincial capitals and area with more than 100,000 inhabitants for a total of 28 urban areas. The survey contains detailed questions on employment and incomes, together with information on household demographics, basic housing questions and questions on education. Up to May 2003, the sample included 30,473 households and 92,294 individuals. The EPH database available to researchers does not provide the information required to link the data collected from the household from one wave to the next before May 1995. Furthermore, the rotating panel design of the survey was modified after the May 2003 wave; since then, the EPH still uses a form of rotating panel design but in such a way that households are interviewed four times over a period of 18 month period, with a two trimester gap between the second and the third interview. There were irregularities in the desing and implementation of the EPH between 2007 and 2015, so this information should be interpreted carefully, following the advice of the INDEC website.
